Joey Clarkson
My name is Joey Clarkson, I am a former home schooled student from the Comox Valley. I offer musical theatre workshops that run for 5 days, 4 hours a day with a class presentation on the last evening for family and friends. In the class we work on vocal technique, acting and dancing; focusing on building the skills and confidence of each student, stressing teamwork and personal value. There is a great advantage in having a daily class of more than an hour. The students dont have a chance to forget what they have learned from the week before and their confidence gets a real chance to build. They also build very strong friendships and learn in leaps and bounds. I custom write a short script, usually from a fairy tale, and chose appropriate music- usually 4 or 5 songs. I assess the students skills the first day through a series of fun theatre games and friendly challenges and assign the roles. Then we launch into some very energetic and exhausting rehearsals. The kids are guaranteed to be sleeping well! I always work with mixed age classes, and often have 5 year olds and 15 year olds in the same class. I find that the classes run very smoothly this way, and I avoid the peer pressure aspect that seems to happen when you get a bunch of kids of the same age together.
Program costs are $100 per child for the week (20 hours of instruction plus presentation) , with a minimum of 15 paid children enrolled in the class. Please feel free to email me with any questions! Email: joeyclarkson@telus.net
