Not Back to School Picnic! |

The Annual "Not Back to School" Picnic is a well-loved chance for adults and kids to catch up with each other after the busy summer and celebrate our freedom to enjoy a beautiful beach day. EVERYONE WELCOME: The annual NBTS picnic is open to ALL homelearners, including many faith groups. It is open to all races, ages, "style" of homelearners, and gender. It is an inclusive, welcoming place for families to connect at the beginning of the year, and celebrate the freedom we have to play at the beach on a day when others are inside finding out which classrooms they're going to be assigned this year. It's a chance for new families to find friendship and playmates for their children, and an opportunity to "see" what homelearning looks like if they've only read about the possibilities in a book. A time to make connections, to gather information on the support that's out there for families, and an opportunity to engage and participate in their children's lives. It's a day to sit back in the sand and enjoy life! Everybody is welcome at the picnic, regardless of whether or not you belong to any "official" home schooling group or not - if you home school, are thinking about home schooling, have home schooled in the past, or are being invited along by home schooling neighbours to see what its all about... People start arriving late morning and stay until they get tired. Some families have one child in school and don't arrive until after lunch. Bring a picnic lunch and beach stuff. Usually we don't notice the wasps on this beach. But with all the food, you never know. Bring whatever you use for stings just in case. VHLN will have a banner set up. There will be name tag supplies. Please come by an make nametags for yourself and your children. There is no formal organization to this picnic so don't be shy. Introduce yourself to people sitting near you. See you there!
